Celebrating Global Health Impact: A Commitment on International Health Day

In the final blessed days of Ramadan, Alwaleed Philanthropies, chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, provided 617 residential units for Saudi citizens in need to increase the number of beneficiaries of the Housing Initiative to 7,782 citizens.

The initiative was in response to the call of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud and the Crown Prince HRH Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, to provide&nbsp; adequate housing for citizens in need.

Alwaleed Philanthropies is one of the first pioneers in providing residential units for eligible citizens. The Foundation reviews and assesses cases to ensure priority is given to citizens in dire need to provide them with the means that will ensure a dignified life.

Alwaleed Philanthropies are involved in a wide spectrum of humanitarian and philanthropic activities in more than 90 countries. Their focus areas are established around strategic initiatives ranging from Disaster Relief and Community Development, to Women and Youth Empowerment, as well as Promoting Intercultural Understanding.

Alwaleed Philanthropies Provides Residential Units for 7,782 Saudi Citizens

**October 2020, Riyadh**: HRH Princess Lamia Bint Majed Al Saud, Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global", chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz AlSaud, joined the Global Observance of the World Habitat Day, organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) on October 4th-6th, 2020. The event, themed ‘Housing for All: A Better Urban Future’, was hosted by the city of Surbaya, Indonesia and focused on the importance of providing housing to vulnerable communities most severely affected by the pandemic crisis around the world.

The event was attended by His Excellency President Joko Widodo of Indonesia; His Excellency President Iván Duque Márquez of Colombia; UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres; Executive Secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana; UN-Habitat Executive Director Maimunah Mohd Sharif, and ministers, senior officials and representatives from a broad range of countries, including Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Colombia, Costa Rica, Finland, France, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Poland, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, the UAE and UK.

HRH Princess Lamia bint Majed Saud Al Saud, Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global", said: “It gives us great pleasure to be part of this event on World Habitat Day as it presents the opportunity to engage in a global discussion on the significant impact of Covid-19 on the housing sector, and its damaging effects on the existing societal and economic divides. The pandemic has been particularly devastating in poor and densely populated urban areas. Globally, 1 billion people are estimated to be living in slums, informal settlements, and in inadequate housing, and 2.4 billion people lack adequate access to safe water and sanitation. With the support of UN-Habitat and partners, concerted efforts are underway to support local governments, provide community driven solutions and offer adequate homes and shelters in these areas, but more needs to be done.”

HRH Princess Lamia Bint Majed Al Saud addresses urban sustainability challenges on World Habitat Day

Alwaleed Philanthropies (AP), chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz AlSaud, announces the list of beneficiaries of the 11th installment of the "Housing and Car Grants" program. The program aims to provide 10,000 housing units and 10,000 cars to Saudi citizens throughout the Kingdom over 10 years. So far, Alwaleed Philanthropies has provided 22,818 beneficiaries with houses and cars as part of its "Housing and Car Grants" program. The number of beneficiaries from the housing and cars programs reached 22,818, respectively.



The foundation seeks to improve the living standards of Saudi citizens through various community development programs. The "Housing and Car Grants" program is one of the most important local programs, as it supports Saudi families with low incomes by helping them reduce their monthly expenses that go towards housing rents and transportation. The beneficiaries have to meet specific criteria set by the Alwaleed Philanthropies and which are available on the foundation’s official website: https://www.alwaleedphilanthropies.org



The foundation aims to empower all those in need, especially those with few resources. Alwaleed Philanthropies Announces the 11th Installment for the Beneficiaries of "Housing and Car Grants" Program

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global", chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al Saud, and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) have announced the launch of a Covid-19 response initiative in the Ivory Coast. The initiative will provide food supplies and hygienic products to vulnerable communities in affected areas as part of the emergency humanitarian response to the pandemic.



The launch will be marked by an event on 25th June 2020 with the presence of HE Adama Diawara, Minister of Higher Education of Ivory Coast and President of ICESCO national commission in Cote d’Ivoire, Didier Drogba, award-winning footballer who will be represented by the team of his Foundation.



Emphasizing the importance of the initiative, HRH Princess Lamia bint Majed Saud AlSaud, Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" said, “In the face of a pandemic, we all have a part to play; when we protect our health, we protect the health of our communities. Throughout our 40-year history, we have stepped forward in times of crisis, by meeting the immediate and long-term needs of the world’s most vulnerable. Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" and ICESCO are collaborating in a series of initiatives to empower the health sector and mitigate the economic effects of the pandemic across 10 African countries. This fund, part of a global campaign by Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" to tackle Covid-19, will be used to build local capacity in the production of personal protective equipment (PPE) for the most vulnerable in society, as well as provide critical capital to support small and community businesses to survive potential economic fallout. The 10 countries involved are Sudan, Morocco, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Nigeria, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Ivory Coast.

The Foundation achieved this by installing electricity power generators that have a 10-year life span in thousands of villagers who benefited from the project.

The national power grid does not cover these villages. However, they are listed to be connected with the grid during the lifetime of the generators. Lighting Up Lives exemplifies one of the basic tenets of Alwaleed Philanthropies: We offer help where it is needed desperately.

Alwaleed Philanthropies Lights Up Three Villages in Riyadh Region

Alwaleed Philanthropies, that is chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, signed a Memorandum of Collaboration (MOC) in a unique partnership with the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation Co-Chaired by Mr. Bill Gates to bolster the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. Alwaleed Philanthropies pledged $30 Million to that effort.

The MOC was jointly signed by Prince Alwaleed and Mr. Bill Gates. This global commitment is based on a well-defined strategy aimed at reaching a common goal for improving the quality of life for individuals around the world.

Details of the collaboration will be announced as part of The Global Vaccine Summit “Celebrating Progress, Saving Lives” that will take place on April 24th, 2013 in Abu Dhabi, in partnership with HH General Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and in partnership with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Mr. Bill Gates.

Building on recent successes, the Summit will endorse the critical role that vaccines and immunization play in saving lives and protecting children for life. It aims to turn a spotlight on the importance of building and maintaining powerful routine immunization systems to keep all children healthy, no matter where they live. Ms. Safia Al Attas, Project Officer of National Initiatives, received the award on behalf of HRH Princess Lamia bint Majed AlSaud, Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies, during Enjaz Saudi’s Annual Ceremony. The event was sponsored by the Deputy Minister of Education Dr. AbdulRahman bin Mohammed Al-Barrak and took place in the Intercontinental Hotel in Jeddah on Tuesday October 25, 2016.

The annual ceremony was attended by Enjaz Saudi’s board of directors, along with members from the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, the Ministry of Education and the Human Resources Development Fund. Alwaleed Philanthropies Receives Award from Enjaz Saudi for Sponsoring the Growth Mindset Program “Yanmu”

Alwaleed Philanthropies (AP), chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz AlSaud, announces the 9th installment of the "Housing and Car Grants" program. The program aims to provide 10,000 housing units and 10,000 cars to Saudi citizens throughout the Kingdom over 10 years. So far, Alwaleed Philanthropies has provided 22,666 beneficiaries with houses and cars as part of its "Housing and Car Grants" program. The number of beneficiaries of the housing program reached 15,666 and those of the car program is 7,000.

The foundation seeks to improve the living standards of Saudi citizens through various community development programs. The "Housing and Car Grants" program is one of the most important local programs, as it supports Saudi families with low incomes by helping them reduce their monthly expenses that go towards housing rents and transportation. The "Housing and Car Grants" program is accessible to all citizens, has no age limit, and does not require any registration fees. 22,666 Beneficiaries from the "Housing and Car Grants" Program of Alwaleed Philanthropies 

Alwaleed Philanthropies, chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al Saud, and the Ministry of Health announced today they have joined forces to launch a two-year anti-smoking campaign, targeting smokers and non-smokers across the country. The partnership has come to fruition to address the prevalence and dangers of tobacco use as one of the major public health concerns in Saudi Arabia. The campaign is part of Saudi Arabia’s ambitious strategic tobacco control plan of reducing smoking rates from 19.8% to 8% and enhancing the quality of preventive and therapeutic health care services as a part of its Vision 2030.

Commenting on the partnership, HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al Saud, Chairman of Alwaleed Philanthropies said, “We are determined to enhance the quality of lives of citizens and residents across the Kingdom and are pleased to be partnering with the Ministry of Health to reduce the prevalence of smoking and raise awareness of its dangers in Saudi Arabia. This partnership is very much in line with our commitment to making sustainable philanthropic investments to empower people, near and far.”

The first phase of the awareness campaign will target non-smokers, while the second phase will focus on smokers. Moreover, in an effort to identify violators of government anti-smoking regulations, Alwaleed Philanthropies and the Ministry of Health will be directing people to a mobile application to report and monitor violations of anti-smoking regulations, including smoking in public places, selling tobacco to minors and advertising cigarette or shisha smoking on television channels.

According to the World Health Organisation, the tobacco use epidemic is one of the major global public health challenges, causing over 7 million deaths due to smoking-related diseases each year, 70,000 of which are Saudi citizens . A previous Saudi Health Information Survey revealed Saudi Arabia had a total of 5.5 million smokers, equating to 23% of the Kingdom’s population.

Alwaleed Philanthropies and the Ministry of Health Launch Anti-Smoking Campaign across the Kingdom

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" announces the 15th Installment of "Housing and Car Grants" Program To reach more than 30 thousand Beneficiaries

•	In collaboration with UN-Habitat, the Adequate Housing Project will support the restoration of 600 housing units for low-income households in Yemen 

•	Building the Future for Yemeni Youth Project, in partnership with Education for Employment, will provide occupational training and job opportunities for over 660 youth

12 January 2020, Riyadh: Alwaleed Philanthropies, chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al Saud, signed two memorandums of cooperation (MoC) with the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), represented by the Secretary General of the Philanthropy, HRH Princess Lamia Bint Majed Al Saud and SDRPY’s Supervisor, Ambassador Mohammed bin Saeed Al Jaber. The first agreement is in collaboration with UN-Habitat, represented by the Program’s Executive Director, Maimunah Mohd Sharif, to launch the ‘Adequate Housing Project’. The second agreement is in collaboration with Education for Employment (EFE), represented by its Executive Officer, Andrew Baird, to implement an educational program, entitled: Building the Future for Yemeni Youth. Ultimately, the projects are expected to positively impact 4,860 people in Yemen. 

The virtual event was attended by ministers, senior officials and representatives from Yemen, including the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Waed Abdullah Badhib, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, Dr. Muhammad Al-Zaouri and Minister of Public Works and Infrastructures, Manea Bayamain. 

Ambassador Mohammed bin Saeed Al Jaber, SDRPY Supervisor, said: “The initiatives are part of our ongoing efforts to assist the Government in Yemen by restoring housing, and offering placement programs, job trainings, and self-employment opportunities to youth, under the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.”

Commenting on the announcement, HRH Princess Lamia bint Majed Saud Al Saud, Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies said, “Adequate housing and proper job placements are vital in economic, social, and civic development. If addressed properly, a myriad of socio-economic benefits can be reaped and business opportunities will grow.”

HRH added: “Today’s agreements with the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen, UN-Habitat and Education for Employment demonstrates our continuous efforts towards providing long-term solutions and achieving sustainable impact in a way that supports the most vulnerable segments of society. We are delighted to have partnered with institutions that share both our core values and ethos for creating real change within societies.” 

In coordination with the Yemeni government and local authorities, and in cooperation with civil society organizations, the “Adequate Housing Project” aims to restore 600 housing units for low-income households in Aden and other areas with low living standards in Yemen. 

Studies conducted by the vested parties indicate that the project is expected to benefit up to 4,200 people directly, in addition to indirect beneficiaries of the improvements to the urban landscape of the residential neighborhoods, and the general improvement of the social and economic conditions. Moreover, the project will benefit more than 200 unemployed youth by providing vocational training, while 1600 new job opportunities will be created during the implementation period.

The second project, entitled: Building the Future for Yemeni Youth, will aim to provide occupational training and job opportunities for 660 youth and their families, to improve the living standards and achieve economic stability in targeted areas. 

Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Executive Director of UN-Habitat, noted: “This partnership will enhance our contributions in Yemen and will enable us to provide assistance and support for these underprivileged groups.” While Andrew Baird, EFE’s CEO, commented “Since 2006, EFE has linked over 114,000 Arab youth to a job or the world of work. We are extremely pleased to be part of this effort to support Yemeni youth.”

Alwaleed Philanthropies signs MoC with the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen to support 4,860 people through housing and educational initiatives

His Royal Highness Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal AlSaud, Chairman of Alwaleed Philanthropies, delivered the second installment of equipped vehicles in partnership with The Physically Disabled Adults Association (Harakia), Careem, and Aljazirah Vehicles Agencies. The Foundation will provide 200 equipped cars over the course of 7 years for the disability beneficiaries of women and men after being trained by the relevant authorities.

HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Tala AlSaud has distributed the cars to the beneficiaries at the Kingdom Tower in Riyadh on Tuesday March 26. The distribution of the cars took place in the presence of HRH Princess Lamia bint Majed AlSaud, Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies. Ms. Amal Al Kathiri, Executive Director of the National Initiatives Department. Also, present from The Physically Disabled Adults Association representatives were: Eng. This initiative aims in helping the youth, both males and females, with physical disabilities to become more mobile and independent. This will greatly enhance their quality of life, in addition to their gaining a greater ability to participate in society, and to having equal opportunities for employment, as these are necessary for the development of the economy, and the enrichment of the workforce. The most recent royal decree, which allowed women to drive, will also serve this initiative.

Alwaleed Philanthropies Delivers the Second Instalment of Cars Equipped to Empower People with Physical Disability

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global", chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz AlSaud, the global philanthropic foundation, has made a fresh commitment to preventing the spread of disease by investing a further US $5 million in its partnership with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.



The commitment will provide extra funding between 2020 and 2024 to support organisations known by Gavi as ‘pacesetters’ that are developing new innovations to improve vaccine access and delivery, particularly in urban areas. The foundation will make the investment through Gavi’s INFUSE initiative (Innovation for Uptake, Scale and Equity in Immunisation), which identifies these ‘pacesetters’, provides funding and support for them, and connects them to authorities in countries that need vaccination support.



The grant is part of a range of efforts by Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" to improve routine immunisation and contributes to Gavi’s mission to ensure that every child is immunised with basic life-saving vaccines no matter where they live and builds on the original US $1 million investment made in 2015 to support vaccines in Timor Leste, Kiribati, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Guyana for the 2016-2020 programme.



HRH Princess Lamia Bint Majid Al Saud, General Secretary of Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global", today announced the partnership at the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7), hosted by the Japanese government in Yokohama on 30th August.

By 2050 nearly 70% of the world’s population will live in urban settings. The rapid growth will add nearly 2.5 billion people to urban areas, with 90% of the expansion occurring in Asia and Africa. These large, highly populated urban settings with mobile, transient and under-immunised populations lend themselves to an increased risk of disease transmission and outbreaks.

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" invests $5 million with Gavi’s INFUSE initiative to support the global fight for vaccines

His Royal Highness Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal AlSaud, Chairman of Alwaleed Philanthropies, delivered the third instalment of vehicles for two separate projects in Saudi Arabia. The first project with a delivery of 15 additional cars is aimed towards enhancing the quality of life of persons with lower body disabilities in KSA, allowing them to become more mobile and independent. The initiative is in partnership with The Physically Disabled Adults Association (Harakia). The second project which also involved a delivery of 15 additional cars is part of Alwaleed Philanthropes efforts to support and empower Saudi women to work as Captainahs, for the Careem platform in Saudi Arabia, allowing them to become more independent and participate in wider economic development. Both initiatives are currently in their third instalment and are in partnership with Aljazirah Vehicles Agencies.



The Harakia initiative equips disabled persons with basic skills they need to gain employment, providing them with a greater ability to participate in society and in the development of the economy. Alwaleed Philanthropies will provide 200 specially equipped cars over a seven-year period for the disabled beneficiaries both women and men. They will be able to drive after being trained by the relevant local authorities.



The initiative with Careem, aims to empower and provide greater ability to women to participate in society and to seek equal opportunities for employment. This would enrich the workforce in Saudi Arabia and add to further development of the economy. Alwaleed Philanthropies has pledged 100 vehicles to Careem as part of this overall project.

The presentation of the cars took place in the presence of HRH Princess Lamia bint Majed AlSaud, Secretary General of AP. **Speaking at the event HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal AlSaud said:**

“If Saudi Arabia is going to meet its Vision 2030 targets, it is vital that we empower our women and our youth. Both initiatives will help to empower people by providing them with a purpose and role within society as well as the economy. As the Harakia initiative shows, by applying simple and cost-effective technology, we can make long lasting and life changing differences to people’s lives. On the other hand, with our initiative with Careem, we aim to further develop and invest in women's talents and increase their participation in the labour force from 22% to 30%.”

Alwaleed Philanthropies delivers third instalment of cars with an aim to enhance the lives of persons with physical disabilities and empower women in Saudi Arabia

Alwaleed Philanthropies, chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al Saud, signed a memo of understanding with the Housing Development Foundation - Sakan - on Thursday, 16/7/2020. The prior agreement aims to support the families with the greatest need for adequate housing across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including those covered by social welfare at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development and entitled to housing support offered by the Ministry of Housing.

The agreement was signed by and Mrs. Amal Al-Kathiri, Executive Director of National Initiatives at Alwaleed Philanthropies, and Engineer Mishary bin Fahd Al Juwaira, CEO of the Housing Development Foundation (SAKAN) Engineer Al-Juwaira further explained that Sakan seeks to cooperate with the third sector carefully to provide better housing support for families in need across the Kingdom to meet the set standards. He also highlighted that Sakan aims to achieve a definite impact on the housing development, while also making impressive progress through orchestrating all-out and concerted efforts spearheaded by effective partnerships with the public and private sectors.

In the same vein, Engineer Al-Juwaira spelled out that one of the critical pathways of the said memorandum is to provide Alwaleed Philanthropies with the lists of families entitled to such housing support that fully meet the eligibility criteria to accommodate them within Alwaleed Philanthropies Housing Program.
Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman Al-Husseini, advisor to Sakan, remarked; through the said message, we build various development programs across the professional and social life levels for the families benefiting from the housing units of Alwaleed Philanthropies. Such families are entitled to housing support by the Ministry of Housing to be well trained and gain labor market skills and better cope with challenges and changes in such a manner as to improve the standard of living and raise the savings-related awareness of such families.

For her part, Mrs. Amal Al-Kathiri highlighted the paramount importance of the said agreement in coordinating the efforts made between the two parties in development housing, which is assigned a high priority among the packages of community initiatives and projects. Al-Kathiri further explained that Alwaleed Philanthropies always seeks to organize the efforts between sectors that aim to develop and empower the community economically.

Equally important, Al-Kathiri stated that the said memorandum aims to refurbish and restore the housing units to increase them up to 400 houses in various regions of the Kingdom while engaging voluntarily teams specialized in housing volunteering activity and highlighting their community role.
Alwaleed Philanthropies has contributed to providing housing units to more than 16.000 beneficiaries since the launch of its development housing project in 2015; it delivers housing units to families after ensuring that they are eligible for such housing support through the eligibility gateway for social research.
Al-Kathiri also emphasized the development side of such families through specialized programs that transfer them from the pastoral circle to the development field.

Given the current precautionary measures due to the COVID19 pandemic, the two parties signed the agreement document virtually via video conference (online).

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" (AP), chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal AlSaud, announced lighting up the iconic Kingdom Tower in Riyadh in orange Saturday, January 30th, to join the world in celebrating the second annual World Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Day.

From the Kingdom Tower in Saudi Arabia to the Colosseum in Rome, more than 50 landmarks representing over 25 nations across the world showcased their support on World NTD Day by lighting up the building “orange” in celebrating the progress of beating NTD.
1 in 5 people on the planet are affected by Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), many of which can be prevented, eliminated or even eradicated with improved access to existing safe and cost-effective tools.

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" participated in NTD Day along side with partners in support of the projects that aim to eliminate these diseases such as, The Carter Center in Eradication of Guinea Worm project, the UNICEF in Measles and Rubella Elimination Project, The End Fund in the END of Diseases of Neglect Project, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in Polio Eradication Fund.

Kingdom Tower Lights up in Orange to Mark World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" (AP), chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz AlSaud, announces the 8th installment of the "Housing and Car Grants" program. The program aims to provide 10,000 housing units and 10,000 cars to Saudi citizens throughout the Kingdom over 10 years. So far, Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" has provided 21,000 beneficiaries with houses and cars as part of its "Housing and Car Grants" program. The number of beneficiaries of the housing program reached 15,000 and those of the car program is 6,000.

The foundation seeks to improve the living standards of Saudi citizens through various community development programs. The "Housing and Car Grants" program is one of the most important local programs, as it supports Saudi families with low incomes by helping them reduce their monthly expenses that go towards housing rents and transportation. The "Housing and Car Grants" program is accessible to all citizens, has no age limit, and does not require any registration fees. The beneficiaries have to meet specific criteria set by the Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" and which are available on the foundation’s official website: www.alwaleedphilanthropies.org

The foundation aims to empower all those in need, especially those with few resources. 21,000 Beneficiaries from the "Housing and Car Grants" Program of Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global"

11th July 2021, Riyadh: Alwaleed Philanthropies, chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud, signed a SAR 2 billion partnership agreement with the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, and the Housing Development Foundation (SAKAN) to support the existing ‘Housing and Car Grant’ program. The program will enhance adequate housing for families most in need and provide means of transportation.

The ‘Housing and Car Grant’ program, currently one of Alwaleed Philanthropies largest initiatives, seeks to provide 10,000 homes and 10,000 cars within five years across all regions in Saudi Arabia. Through collaboration, Alwaleed Philanthropies and their partners will improve the standard of living for Saudi citizens through reduced housing costs and transportation expenses, in addition to, supporting development housing projects across Saudi Arabia.  

The signing ceremony was attended by HRH Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud, Chairman of Alwaleed Philanthropies, His Excellency Mr. Majid bin Abdullah Al Hogail, Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, HRH Princess Lamia bint Majid Al Saud, Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies, His Excellency Deputy Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, Engineer Abdullah bin Muhammad Al-Badir, and Dr. Ziyad bin Othman Al-Hogail, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Developmental Housing Corporation,.

Alwaleed Philanthropies expands ‘Housing and Car Grant’ program, establishing largest partnership agreement with Saudi public sector amounting to SAR 2 billion

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" (AP), chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal AlSaud, participated in a consultation workshop that marks the launch of “Adequate Housing Project” in partnership with the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Programme for Yemen (SDRPY), and UN-Habitat to rehabilitate 600 houses for low-income families in the Yemeni city of Aden.

The project aims to contribute to a sustainable solution for the vulnerable families of IDP’s and returnees in Aden city with the specific objective of improving the living conditions and social cohesion of displaced people, returnees and their host communities, in the priority districts of the governorate through rehabilitation of the damaged housing.

The project will benefit over 4000 people, will also support 200 unemployed youth with vocational training. Some 1600 new jobs will be created during the implementation period in coordination with the Yemeni Government and local authorities, and in cooperation with civil society organizations.

The participants discussed different approaches to reach the most effective implementation plan, selection of targeted neighbourhoods and end beneficiaries. Recommendations were made to be further discussed among parties.

The Head of SDRPY Office in Aden, Eng. Ahmed Madkhali stated: “The Adequate Housing project, came as an extension of the SDRPY’s cooperation and continuous coordination with the Yemeni government and the local authority, and as a result of the agreement signed on January 13, 2021, with AP and UN-Habitat to implement the housing sector support program in the Republic of Yemen. In addition to that, the project will contribute to improving the urban landscape of residential neighbourhoods in the governorate of Aden, as the project will restore 600 homes at a rate of 150 homes for each district."

Deputy Minister of Public Works and Highways Dr. Muhammad Thabet stated: “We in the Ministry are fully prepared to provide support to reconstruction of Yemen. in this workshop, I would like to take the opportunity to thank our partners SDRPY, AP and UN-Habitat also to highlight the significant damage in houses in Aden due to the ongoing war since 2015. He added “We suffer from two main problems, which are the devastation caused by wars, and the problem of natural disasters and climate change. Especially the floods that hit most of Yemen, including Aden”

UN-Habitat Head of Country office Mr. Wael Al-Ashhab said “UN-Habitat appreciates the partnership with SDRPY and AP in enhancing our participation in Yemen and enabling us to help and support the most vulnerable groups in Aden through the housing rehabilitation project. UN-Habitat is also very grateful to the Ministry of Works Public Highways, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and the Governorate of Aden for the support and cooperation during project evaluation and during the initiation of the implementation process of this project.”

The Launch of Adequate Housing Project for Restoration of 600 Low-Income Housing Units in Yemen

This is made up of 16,545 beneficiaries from the housing program and 10,320 from the car program.

Alwaleed Philanthropies donated electric generators for three villages in Asir region in Al-Mady Town, Om Radm Town and Al-Fuhaid Town.

Prince Alwaleed Celebrates Saudi National Day by Distributing Housing Units in Support of Saudi Citizens. Alwaleed Philanthropies' Housing Initiative Reaches More Than 8,000 Beneficiaries. HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Alwaleed Philanthropies, celebrated the Saudi National Day on Tuesday 23rd September 2014, with the residents of Otayqua community in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as part of the Housing Initiative. Thousands of eligible Saudi citizens have received housing units in the Otayqua district. This initiative reflected the values of the National Day’s spirit. This action brings the number of beneficiaries of the Alwaleed Philanthropies' Housing Initiative to more than 8,000 Saudi citizens.

Upon His Royal Highness’s arrival to the location, the people of Otayqua gathered around him to express their genuine delight with his visit to share such a celebration. During the visit, His Royal Highness clearly expressed his interest in identifying the living conditions of the Otayqua residents and their needs that could be met by the Foundation. In this regard, Prince Alwaleed was adamant to hand over the units to the beneficiaries in person and attended four separate lunch invitations by the families.

Lastly, the visit was concluded with Magh’reb prayer with the residents at Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque accompanied by Alsheikh Zaid AlMugaidhed. Prince Alwaleed Celebrates Saudi National Day by Distributing Housing Units in Support of Saudi Citizens - Alwaleed Philanthropies Housing Initiative Reaches More Than 8,000 Beneficiaries

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" (AP), chaired by HRH  Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz AlSaud, in partnership with the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization "ISESCO", co-launched the 1st caravan for charity in an effort to reduce the anguish of deprivation among the citizens of Al-Joufah in the Southern Shouneh District in Jordan.



The Medical, Educational and Socio-cultural Caravan, which is the first in Asia, in collaboration with the Jordanian University, aims at supporting and alleviating the suffering of the residents of remote areas for a period of four days, and it targets 15.000 persons.



The Deputy Director General of the Islamic Organization "ISESCO", Dr. Amina Al-Hajri, stressed that the health affairs are one of the most important priorities of the organization's development policies that still face a problem between spending on the health sector and ensuring access to health services.



Al-Hajri noted that ISESCO, in collaboration with the Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" since 2015, has adopted the "Medical, Educational and Socio-cultural Caravan" program directed to remote areas that lack healthcare opportunities, through caring for maternal and child health, providing medical devices and equipment, lectures on awareness-raising, and the distribution of resources to schools as well as maintenance facilities.



During its working days from 14 to 19 December 2019, ISESCO provided free medical consultations for the residents of Al-Joufah in gynecology, pediatrics, cardiology, ENT, and other specialties.  It carried out maintenance work for three schools: Al-Joufah Secondary Comprehensive School for Boys, Al-Joufah Comprehensive Secondary School for Girls, and Al-Joufah Elementary Mixed School, and equipped them with air-conditioning and  special headphones for school broadcast, and donated basic materials to school education in addition to distributing winter clothes to all schoolchildren in the surrounding neighborhoods.



The Caravan was participated by the Jordanian Ministry of Health, the National Committee, the University of Jordan (the National Program to link industry with academia - the FFF program), and the Directorate of Education and the Southern Shouneh District Administration.



During their visit to the region, Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" team participated in the supervision and field participation in the project activities to ensure the progress of work in accordance with the highest levels of quality. Also they participated in the distribution of 15 wheelchairs to persons with reduced mobility, including children and adults.



During the closing ceremony, Reem Abu Khayal, the Assistant Manager of Public Relations and Media in Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global", praised the great efforts made by the staff: “We started working together with ISESCO in activating the Medical, Social and Educational Caravan Project in 2015, and after the success of four courses in Morocco: Guelmim, Azilal, Al Hoceima and Errachidia and three in Sub-Saharan Africa: Dakar, Bamako and Abidjan, we, during these exciting moments, are celebrating the success of the eighth caravan and the achievement of its desired goals in the Joufah District.



This is the first caravan in Jordan but the eighth of both "ISESCO" and Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" within the humanitarian program launched in 2015 with the aim of improving the living conditions of people in remote areas, and in the light of the contribution of cooperating parties, and the efforts made by ISESCO member states in the fields of health and education.

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" and ISESCO launched the first Medical, Educational and Socio-Cultural Caravan

Alwaleed Philanthropies, chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, launches #Albyout_Asrar child abuse awareness campaign during the Holy month of Ramadan.

Although child abuse is considered one of the most critical issues in today’s society, only 10% of the cases are reported while 90% remain wrapped in a child’s sense of shame or fear of being subjected to punishment from the perpetrator.

Much could be done at societal level to prevent child abuse and neglect including shedding light on children’s rights, protects their dignity and ensures their natural growth socially, psychologically and physically. Furthermore, several international conventions and agreements are placed to ensure that children’s rights are protected. The Human Rights Convention defines child abuse as “any act or neglect that subjects a child’s life, safety, integrity, and health from a physical, sexual, mental, and psychological aspect to risk.”

Child abuse is a global problem that is deeply rooted in cultural, economic and social practices. In Saudi Arabia, 65% of the child abuse cases reported to hospitals include physical injuries such as bruises, welts, burns, scalds, lacerations and fractures. Young children are most at risk of physical abuse. The highest rates of child abuse are found in children under two years of age.&nbsp; Based on World Health Organization Research, child maltreatment is more likely in communities with high rates of poverty. Available data also suggests that in about 55% of the cases, the perpetrator is the father, whereas in 45% of the cases the mother is the perpetrator.

In the United States, two to four million children are subjected to abuse and thousands are killed by their own parents, while dozens are annually placed in foster homes seeking a way out of the abusive cycle. In the United Kingdom, a recent report released by the Ministry of Interior Affairs, states that four children are killed per week by their parents and 200 children die every year because of abusive crimes.

Alwaleed Philanthropies aims to stimulate community action through launching #Albyout_Asrar campaign to raise awareness, and prevent child abuse and neglect in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Alwaleed Philanthropies Launches #Albyout_Asrar Child Abuse Awareness Campaign

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global", chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al Saud, and The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the phases and programme related to implementing the joint initiative to help 10 countries address the adverse repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative entails humanitarian aid to the needy categories, capacity-building in the production of sanitizers and protective equipment to prevent the transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic, and support to the private sector and women and youth entrepreneurs.



Following the signature of the MoU during the virtual ceremony held on Tuesday, H.R.H. Princess Lamia Bint Majed Saud AlSaud, Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global", said “we are proud of our partnership with ICESCO marked by many years of humanitarian initiatives to meet the urgent and long-term needs of the neediest categories around the globe. This initiative will empower women and young entrepreneurs by making them assume the principal role in the fight against Coronavirus”.

The MoU stipulates that Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global", over a period of one year, provide 2,090,000 US dollars in aid to contribute to the efforts of addressing the repercussions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic in Niger, Senegal, Morocco, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Nigeria, the Sudan, Mauritania, and Cote d’Ivoire.



The initiative seeks to provide food assistance to the neediest populations and most affected by the pandemic, most notably centers of elderly care, people with disabilities, and women victim of violence, orphanages, refugee centers and patients in health centers and hospitals. It also aims to build local capacities in the production of sanitizers and protective equipment (gels, protective masks, ventilators) through prioritizing and empowering men and women entrepreneurs in local informal sectors.



The two parties agreed to set up an implementation schedule to be attached to the MoU and a code of conduct for media outreach specific to the partnership. In this regard, the MoU stipulates that ICESCO prepare a quarterly report about the implementation of the project in each of the target countries and a detailed one at the end of the implementation, on the most important innovative initiatives with photos of production units and recorded testimonials of some beneficiary citizens.

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global", that is chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, supported The Right to Live for children of Down Syndrome in Gaza.

Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Down syndrome is the main center under the supervision of The Right to Live Society in Palestine, offering rehabilitation services for children of Down syndrome. The center aims to merge children with Down syndrome with the local society and to increase community awareness towards them.

The center offers educational, mental, and social and health services to better serve patients starting from a young age.

The Right to Live Society (RLS) is a non-governmental charity organization, established in 1992 to be the first and only society to care for children of Down syndrome in Palestine.

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global", chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, announced a groundbreaking project to grant 10,000 housing units to 10,000 families over 10 years. The combined cost for the housing project was EGP 2 billion, of which EGP 850,000,000 was contributed by Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global".&nbsp;

In addition, Prince Alwaleed contributed 10,000 Acres of land in Toshka, a EGP 700,000,000 investment, as a gift to improve the living conditions of many Egyptian Citizens. The combined contribution of Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" and Prince Alwaleed was EGP 1.5 billion.

Moreover, Prince Alwaleed met with the President of Egypt, His Excellency Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, on November 25th, 2015 to finalize all the arrangements related to the two projects. Accordingly, Ms. Abir Kaki Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" met with Dr. Ali Jomaa, the Former Mufti of Egypt, on behalf of the Misr El Kheir Foundation on Thursday December 17th, 2015 to sign the partnership of granting 10,000 housing units to Egyptian Citizens.

Also attending the meeting was Ms. Nauf Al Rawaf, Community Development Projects Executive Manager and HRH Princess Lamia Bint Majed Alsaud, Executive Manager of Media &amp; Communication of Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global", along with Egypt’s Ministers of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Local Development, and Social Welfare to initiate this historic project.

The endeavor consists of constructing 10,000 low-cost housing units. An estimated 1,000 units will be distributed each year to the areas with the highest need over the next 10 years within Egypt. These units will be granted by &nbsp;the Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" to families most in need based upon objective procedures, as well as 10,000 acres in Toshka, to be at the disposal of the Government of Egypt to benefit from them as it deems appropriate to the Egyptian society. The units will be allocated in all Egyptian governorates except Cairo, North Sena and South Sena. The Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" and the Misr El Kheir Foundation will soon launch a media campaign that will cover all areas of Egypt to announce the start date and procedures for those who are eligible to apply for the housing units.

This is a unique partnership between leading national &amp; charitable foundations in the Arab region and reflects the Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global"’ primary focus on community development, specifically to fund, implement, and manage philanthropic projects to develop Arab societies.

The Council of Ministers in Egypt will manage and coordinate the assigned work between individual ministries and related public entities, such as the General Commissions, which are involved in executing the project. Among their responsibilities will be the task of ensuring that appropriate legal and regulatory structures exist related to the administration of the project. A representative chosen by the Council shall be given the full capacity to execute the responsibilities mentioned in the protocol, according to the scheduled time-frame and detailed work plan.

The Misr El Kheir Foundation will handle the technical administration, community and finance management for the project. The first stage will consist of reviewing and adopting design, strategic, and technical specifications, along with quantitative standards for the project. Subsequently, the initiation of project bidding procedures by qualified contractors will begin, based on the Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global"’ specific policies. Another duty of the Misr El Kheir Foundation is to lead the project’s Executive Committee. A representative of the Misr El Kheir Foundation will be appointed President of the project's Executive Committee with the responsibility of ensuring that protocols are met.

This is the second time that the Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" has collaborated with the Misr El Kheir Foundation. The previous initiative, in 2014, consisted of paying the debts for 1,000 men and women in Egyptian prisons to enable their release during the holy month of Ramadan. Alwaleed Philanthropies Grants 10,000 Housing Units &10,000 Cars to Saudi Citizens

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global", chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the global philanthropic foundation, received recognition at the 50th World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos for its commitment to eradicating preventable diseases. The award was presented following Gavi’s annual public-private partnership breakfast on the sidelines of the WEF and comes as Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" marks its 40th anniversary.

 

The award was received by HRH Princess Lamia Bint Majed Saud Al Saud, General Secretary of Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" who also spoke at Gavi’s annual public-private partnership  breakfast on the organisation’s commitment to ensure that every child is immunized with basic life-saving vaccines no matter where they live in the world.

 

Last year Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" made a fresh commitment to preventing the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases by investing a further US $5 million in its partnership with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. The commitment will provide extra funding between 2020 and 2024 to support organisations identified by Gavi as ‘pacesetters’ that are developing new innovations to improve vaccine access and delivery, particularly in urban areas. The foundation is providing the funding through Gavi’s INFUSE initiative (Innovation for Uptake, Scale and Equity in Immunisation), which identifies these ‘pacesetters’, provides funding and support for them, and connects them to authorities in countries that need vaccination support.

 

By 2050 nearly 70% of the world’s population will live in urban settings. The rapid growth will add nearly 2.5 billion people to urban areas, with 90% of the expansion occurring in Asia and Africa. These large, highly populated urban settings with mobile, transient and under-immunised populations lend themselves to an increased risk of disease transmission and outbreaks.

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, November 20, 2019 – His Royal Highness Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal AlSaud, Chairman of Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global", joined Bill Gates and leading figures from the international community to announce the first round of funding to a major global initiative to end polio. The commitment was made at the Reaching the Last Mile forum in Abu Dhabi, hosted by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.



The Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) ‘Endgame Strategy 2019-2023’ aims to tackle the final obstacles to the eradication of polio and sustain a polio-free future. Bill Gates, representing the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which is one of the leading partners of the GPEI, announced and recognised the first funders of the strategy and called for more donors to come forward in a key pledge moment for the organisation.



Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global"’ donation of US $2 million to GPEI will support the creation of action plans to expand access to polio vaccination and help reach children everywhere. The support was recognised during the Polio Pledge Moment at today’s forum, which brought together all the partner organisations and issued a call to action for others to join.



The donation from Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" is the latest in a long line of strategic and co-ordinated donations to disease eradication, and its second to support the GPEI following a donation of $30 million in 2013. In addition to supporting GPEI, Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" has worked with key partners such as Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Carter Center and UNICEF to tackle Guinea Worm disease, river blindness, measles and rubella, amongst other preventable and treatable diseases.



Afterwards, HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal met with Bill Gates, with whom he has a long and productive relationship, to discuss the remaining challenges in global infectious disease eradication.



Commenting on today’s pledge and the meeting he said: “Today we have marked an important step in the last push towards a polio free world. Since 1988 an estimated 18 million people are walking today who otherwise would have been paralyzed due to this disease. Donations deliver change, and collaborative efforts deliver it faster and with deeper impact. That’s why I am here today with these renowned partners, calling on others to join us in this last battle to end Polio for good.”



The GPEI pledging event launched a fundraising push to fill the $3.27 billion funding gap remaining in the 2019-2023 Endgame Strategy. So far, $2.6 billion has been raised. The funding will help deliver a programme of activity that will continue to protect children and secure progress towards a Polio-free world, as well as help to ensure that the workers and infrastructure developed by the program can support other health needs and development priorities.

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" joins the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and partners with new commitment to eradicate polio

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global", chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz AlSaud, has invested $1 million to help complete the eradication of Guinea worm, a neglected tropical disease that remains only in remote poor rural villages in a few African countries.



Launched today in New York, The Carter Center Challenge Fund for Guinea Worm Eradication aims to secure $40 million to help eradicate the disease. The Carter Center Challenge Fund will match, dollar for dollar, donations to the Guinea Worm Eradication Program, up to $10 million per year in 2019 and 2020, for a total of $20 million. Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global"’ is the first donation from an international organization.



This latest investment means that over the past five years Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" has donated more than $60 million to help eliminate diseases and improve access to vaccines through partnerships with The Carter Center, Gavi, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF, the World Health Organization, the World Bank and the END fund.



Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" collaborates with The Carter Center on several health programs, including the elimination of river blindness and treating and preventing advanced-stage trachoma, both leading causes of infectious blindness worldwide.

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" joins global Carter Center campaign to end the spread of Guinea worm disease

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" (AP), chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, announced lighting up the iconic Kingdom Tower in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in blue on April 2nd 2016 to support the 8th annual World Autism Awareness Day. This was done as part of Autism Speaks’ Light It Up Blue (LIUB) initiative, which was launched in 2010 with the goal of bringing the world’s attention to this developmental disability. Every year more than 13,000 buildings and landmarks in over 45 countries shine a blue light to raise awareness of the millions of people affected by autism.

World Autism Awareness Day, observed on the 2nd of April every year, was adopted by the United Nations in 2007 and marks the start of Autism Awareness Month, a global effort to highlight the impact of this condition on millions of people around the world.

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" Announces that Kingdom Tower Lights up In Blue to Support Autism Day 

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" has partnered with The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) that supports the project of “Improving Livelihoods for Rural Women of Forest Guinea” in West Africa.

The project aims to improve food security in target areas of the Forest Guinea Region through the provision of quality seeds and training in modern farming techniques.

It has also worked on increasing households’ income in target areas by promoting agricultural products processing, conservation and related income generating activities.
