Strengthening Communities and Local Capacities
In a joint effort to combat the devastating impacts of COVID-19, Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" has partnered with ICESCO to strengthen community and local capacities in Africa for the production of hygienic products and protective equipment. This initiative aims to provide essential resources and support to local units in order to address the immediate needs of the population and ensure the safety and well-being of communities. With a focus on sustainability and long-term impact, this project is making a significant difference in the fight against COVID-19.
Building Sustainable Capacities and Empowering Communities
The project's objectives go beyond the immediate response to the COVID-19 crisis. It seeks to build sustainable capacities for the production of hygienic and protective equipment, enabling communities to continue meeting their needs even after the pandemic. Additionally, the initiative provides crucial financial support to actors in the informal and local sectors who have suffered loss of revenue due to the crisis. By empowering women and youth entrepreneurs, this project creates opportunities for them to play a vital role in the COVID-19 response and recovery efforts.

The project focuses on ten countries in Africa, namely Burkina Faso, Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Mauritania, Senegal, and Sudan. With a reach of approximately 6.5 million people, the initiative aims to address the specific needs and challenges faced by these communities in combating COVID-19.
