Alwaleed Philanthropies and Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University announce partnership aimed at increasing volunteering

International philanthropic organization Alwaleed Philanthropies Global, chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al Saud, has announced the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding with Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University on March 13, with the aim of increasing participation in volunteer programmes across the kingdom and around the world.

The new partnership will focus on developing and implementing volunteer programmes across the educational sector. The aim is to continue developing the successful model that has already been applied to other institutions and applying it more widely across other universities and colleges in Saudi Arabia that are aligned with the Saudi Arabian Scouts Association. Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University is the second university in Saudi Arabia to participate in activities related to female Scouting.

The programme is aimed at empowering women and youth of Saudi Arabia and advancing their participation in volunteer programmes in the humanitarian field. The launch of the partnership will provide opportunities for students to learn and practice various activities in line with the Scout curriculum and methodology that is used by the World Scout Organization and the Saudi Arabian Scout Association. The programme will enhance volunteering among Saudi citizens and provide opportunities to meet the Sustainable Development Goals; while motivating participants to engage with global issues.

Commenting on the new partnership, HRH Princess Lamia Bint Majid Al Saud, Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies said : “Volunteering is an empowering experience for young people and can create long-lasting benefits in inspiring a future direction for their careers and providing a purpose and memories that will last forever.

“Volunteering also brings significant value to society by building better and stronger links across families and communities and between countries. We have the ambition to significantly increase volunteering over the coming years as we build towards Vision 2030 for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia”

The new partnership is also focused on delivering against the ambitious Vision 2030 of the Kingdom by giving male and female students opportunities to participate in the voluntary field in line with the Quality-of-Life Programme. As well as expanding and encouraging Saudi’s to undertake volunteering within the Kingdom, students will also be inspired to take their learnings abroad and to participate in non-profit development projects internationally.

H.E Dr. Abdullah Alrubaish, President of Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University commented: "The agreement embodies a true example of integration and cooperation between the university and the various sectors. Under this agreement, the university will become the second university in the Kingdom to support female students participate in scouting activities. The university will also provide training on academic scouting programs through direct communication with the Deanship of Community Service and Sustainable Development".

HH Princess Sama bint Faisal Al Saud, Board Member of the World Scout Foundation and Head of the Saudi Girl Scouts Committee, said: “Volunteering, alongside Scouting can provide people with real world skills and knowledge that can then be taken and applied to any future career.
