Alwaleed Philanthropies “Global” partnered with Jahjaga Foundation to usher in a new era of healthcare excellence in Kosovo. This collaboration aims to equip Kosovo's Nuclear Medicine Clinic with a state-of-the-art SPECT/CT/PET medical device, a pivotal step towards addressing the pressing healthcare challenges faced by the nation.

Addressing Critical Healthcare Needs

Kosovo has witnessed a steady rise in cancer cases, with an average of 1,300 new cases reported annually. However, the capacity of the Oncology Clinic to provide treatment is severely limited due to inadequate equipment and space. As a result, patients endure extensive waiting times, with the waiting list stretching to a minimum of 3 months. While some patients have the means to seek treatment abroad, marginalized groups are often left without this opportunity.

Goals for Progress

The initiative sets forth ambitious goals, to become the first center in the region to eliminate the waiting list for radiation treatment in the public sector and to extend treatment services to neighboring Western Balkan countries. These goals represent a significant stride towards ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare for all Kosovo residents.

Healthcare Advancements in Kosovo: SPECT/CT/PET Installation in 2023

The installation of the cutting-edge SPECT/CT/PET medical device is anticipated to be fully completed by April 2024. Following this milestone, a comprehensive training program will be implemented for clinical staff to ensure proficient operation of the equipment. These achievements mark significant progress towards enhancing healthcare services and improving patient outcomes in Kosovo.

Enhancing Healthcare Access

The partnership between Alwaleed Philanthropies “Global” and Jahjaga Foundation aims to enhance the well-being of cancer patients in Kosovo by providing advanced medical equipment to the Nuclear Medicine Clinic. This equipment, offered at no cost to patients within the public sector, eliminates the need for patients to travel abroad for examinations, ensuring timely access to life-saving treatment.

The project aligns with Alwaleed Philanthropies' “Global” commitment to supporting healthcare initiatives worldwide and improving the lives of individuals in need. By strengthening Kosovo's healthcare infrastructure and enhancing the proficiency of clinical staff, this partnership aims to pave the way for a healthier and brighter future for all Kosovo residents.
