Alwaleed Philanthropies Supports Saudi Female Scouts’ Participation in the 16th World Scout Moot, Advancing Women and Youth Empowerment in Line with Saudi Vision 2030

Alwaleed Philanthropies, chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al Saud, announced its support for a group of Saudi female scouts to participate in the 16th World Scout Moot, held in Portugal. The initiative, in partnership with the World Scout Foundation, reflects the foundation’s ongoing commitment to empowering women and youth and strengthening their regional and global presence.
This participation builds upon the foundation’s efforts to launch the first female scouting units across Saudi universities and institutions, in collaboration with the Saudi Arabian Scout Association, Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University, King Khalid University, Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, and the Diriyah Gate Development Authority. These initiatives are part of a comprehensive training program designed to empower young women to join the scouting movement, develop their leadership skills, and enhance their community engagement—aligned with Saudi Vision 2030’s objectives of creating a vibrant society where all individuals are empowered and actively involved.
Held every four years by the World Organization of the Scout Movement, the World Scout Moot is an international platform for youth aged 18 to 25. The event fosters cultural exchange and personal development through environmental, social, and cultural activities. The 16th edition welcomed more than 6,000 participants from 110 countries, supported by over 1,000 volunteers as part of the International Service Team.
The Saudi female scouts took part in the “Trail Phase,” during which multinational scouting groups traveled across various regions in Portugal. Through this journey, participants engaged in cultural and educational explorations, enhancing their global experience. The scouts also participated in several training workshops aimed at developing individual and group skills, and spent five days immersed in a rich program of cultural and traditional activities that highlighted Portuguese heritage and celebrated the values of exchange and cultural diversity.
HRH Princess Lamia Bint Majed Al Saud, Secretary General and Member of the Board of Trustees at Alwaleed Philanthropies, emphasized the significance of this participation as part of the foundation’s ongoing mission to strengthen the capacities of Saudi young women, stating:
“We strive to provide genuine platforms that empower Saudi women and showcase their potential. Scouting is a powerful tool for developing leadership skills, fostering teamwork, and encouraging openness to different cultures. We were among the first in the Kingdom to launch pioneering female Scout units within universities and commissions, an unprecedented step that opened the door for young women to take part in the Scouting movement. The participation of Saudi female Scouts in this global event reflects the remarkable progress the Kingdom is making in women’s empowerment and global representation.”
This initiative embodies the synergy between local and international efforts to support youth capacity development and women’s empowerment—two of the key pillars of Saudi Vision 2030. It also reflects the impact of the long-standing strategic partnership between Alwaleed Philanthropies and the World Organization of the Scout Movement in creating new opportunities for Saudi women.
