Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" supports the Islamic Art Museum project with €9m at the Pergamon Museum in Berlin, Germany

Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global" (registration no- 333) chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz AlSaud, has donated €9m to the Islamic Art Museum project at the Pergamon Museum in Berlin, to support the reconstruction and expansion of the department, develop exhibitions, and expand cultural education.

The Director of the Museum of Islamic Art Professor Dr. Stephan Weber welcomed HRH Princess Lamia Bint Majid Al Saud, Member of the Board and Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global", by a guided tour in the museum and on the pieces, exhibitions in the museum that was provided for the Islamic Art Museum project, which is sponsored by Alwaleed Philanthropies "Global". Afterwards, Professor Weber welcomed HRH Princess Lamia and the attendees at the press event that was held at the Pergamon Museum on Thursday, June 21. The objective of this event was an introduction of the Islamic Art Museum project and its objectives, where HRH Princess Lamia expressed that one of the pillars of the foundation work is to encourage tolerance as well as intercultural and interfaith dialogue. Throughout the years, the foundation have established centers and departments at leading universities and museums across the globe with the aim of fostering greater understanding between the Muslim world and the West.

The project seeks to support the reconstruction and expansion of the Museum of Islamic Art in the capital of Berlin. Also, the development of public awareness and education programs through school education programs and the training of refugees as tour guides at the museum. The Pergamon Museum is the largest of its kind in Germany and has about 93,000 artifacts, and it’s located on the Museum Island where attracts about one million visitors a year. The Pergamon Museum is part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and it has three sections: the Islamic Art Museum, the Classical Collection, and the Middle East Museum. The Islamic Art Museum project aims to increase cultural awareness, support the Islamic heritage and arts, and spread Islamic culture by answering all questions to clarify the true image of Islam.
