“Waeya” Initiative launches the Nine Phase to Enhance Legal Awareness and Empower Women in Saudi Arabia

Alwaleed Philanthropies, chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al Saud, announced the launch of the ninth phase of the “Waeya” initiative. The initiative, in partnership with Faisal Al-Taye Law firm, continues its mission to advance women’s legal empowerment while promoting a deeper awareness of rights and responsibilities across the communities.

This new phase builds on multiple implementation tracks, including expanding impact by providing legal consultations and representation through the project application and field programs; strengthening specialization in cases related to domestic violence and cybercrimes through practical training programs and university-based legal clinics; expanding field awareness campaigns that cover different regions of the Kingdom, including remote villages, to enable women to know and exercise their rights; and finally, establishing partnerships with the health sector to provide legal support for women in healthcare settings, raising awareness on protecting their rights and ensuring their safety.

Empowering women legally is no longer just about spreading knowledge, but about strengthening their ability to exercise their rights effectively.

Since its inception and up to 2024, the Waeya initiative has provided more than 12,000 legal consultations, offered legal support in around 1,300 cases, and trained approximately 527 female lawyers, while directly reaching five remote villages in its efforts to promote accessible justice for all. It has also forged national partnerships with the Human Rights Commission, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), the Asir Development Authority, and Prince Sultan Rehabilitation City.

HRH Princess Lamia bint Majed Al Saud, Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies, stated: “Empowering women legally is no longer just about spreading knowledge, but about strengthening their ability to exercise their rights effectively. The ninth phase of ‘Waeya’ reinforces the initiative’s ongoing impact over the years, while expanding the scope of legal services to ensure every woman can access and practice her rights safely. This enables women to overcome challenges, achieve independence, face life with awareness, and gain easier access to essential services.”

Faisal Al-Tayea, General Director of the Law Firm, added: “The ninth phase of the ‘Waeya’ initiative continues in partnership with Alwaleed Philanthropies to promote legal awareness and empowerment for women and children. This version goes beyond the previous scope of supporting victims of violence and abuse, providing legal representation, psychological support, and awareness in remote villages, to now introduce new goals. These include supporting women entrepreneurs, enhancing their legal standing, and strengthening the legal skills of future female lawyers in Riyadh and Asir through a specialized program focusing on legal knowledge and skills.”
