UN-Habitat’s four-year collaboration with HRH Princess Lamia Bint Majed Al Saud results in provision of housing for vulnerable communities among more successful projects

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), along with Alwaleed Philanthropies, chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al Saud, with HRH Princess Lamia Bint Majed Al Saud, commemorated today four years of collaboration that resulted in further advancing the discussion on sustainable urbanization regionally and the successful resource mobilization and support to a number of projects.

The commemoration took place during the second session of the UN Habitat Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya, where HRH participated in a Side Event tackling peace, development and humanitarian action in Yemen. She also engaged in a number of bilateral meetings, discussing future areas of cooperation.

“Being here today with our partner UN-Habitat will support our efforts to address issues around urbanization and its implications on societies, economies and environments,” Stated HRH Princess Lamia Al Saud. “We promise to continue building bridges for a more compassionate, tolerant and accepting future along with our key partners.”

HRH has supported UN-Habitat achieve a number of milestones, specifically through advocating for key urban areas through attending high level events and highlighting key topics relevant to urbanization. HRH further successfully mobilized resources and supported important projects in the region, spanning Iraq, Palestine, Sudan, Yemen, Syria and Tunisia.

“HRH has successfully contributed to the resource mobilization and support, through AlWaleed Philanthropies, of crucial projects in the region, targeting COVID-19 response, housing for the most vulnerable groups and waste management,” Rania Hedeya, UN-Habitat Regional Representative (a.i.) for the Arab Region, stated. “HRH’s support enables UN-Habitat to reach various audiences and bring attention to urbanization topics in the regional and international agendas.”

Earlier this year, UN-Habitat celebrated the reappointment of HRH as the UN-Habitat Goodwill Ambassador for the Arab region for a second term, looking forward to more collaborations in areas including housing, climate action and urban crisis response.

HRH was appointed as the first ever UN-Habitat Goodwill Ambassador for the Arab region in 2020.

Over four decades, Alwaleed Philanthropies has supported and spent more than 4.4 billion dollars on social welfare and initiated more than 1000 projects in over +189 countries, managed by 10 Saudi female members, reaching more than 1 billion beneficiaries around the world, regardless of gender, race, or religion.
