In partnership with Alwaleed Philanthropies Global, Misr El Kheir Foundation joins in launching the eighth phase of the “Sotra” Project to rebuild and restore homes for the most vulnerable families in Qena.

As part of an ongoing partnership between Alwaleed Philanthropies “Global,” chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al Saud, and Misr El Kheir Foundation, the eighth phase of the Sotra Project has officially launched in Qena Governorate. This initiative aims to enhance housing conditions and provide safe, dignified homes for families living in some of Egypt’s most underserved communities.

On June 18, a field visit took place in Luxor to assess the complete seventh phase, which has already been handed over to its beneficiaries. On June 19, the eighth phase was inaugurated in Qena, with representatives from Alwaleed Philanthropies Global in attendance.

This initiative goes beyond shelter, it builds a path toward a more secure and sustainable future for those who need it most.

Reem Mallawi, Executive Manager for Global Initiatives at Alwaleed Philanthropies, commented: "At Alwaleed Philanthropies, we believe that adequate housing is the foundation of a dignified life. Through our partnership with Misr El Kheir in the Sotra Project, we aim to empower thousands of Egyptian families to live in safer, more stable environments. This initiative goes beyond shelter, it builds a path toward a more secure and sustainable future for those who need it most."

Dr. Mohamed Rifai, CEO of Misr El Kheir Foundation, announced that 600 homes will be targeted in this new phase. He praised the strength of the ongoing partnership with Alwaleed Philanthropies Global, which continues to bring meaningful change to communities across Egypt. Misr El Kheir is leading the implementation of this phase, from assessing housing needs and eligibility to overseeing design plans and technical mapping in line with local conditions.

Dr. Rifai described Sotra as a model of national solidarity, where each home is carefully tailored to the needs of its family and the surrounding environment, ensuring dignity and long-term impact.

Sotra is a collaborative initiative between Alwaleed Philanthropies “Global” and Misr El Kheir Foundation that aims to improve housing conditions for Egypt’s most underserved families. The project’s goal is to build and renovate 10,000 housing units across the country, prioritizing families in critical need. Based on extensive social research and housing assessments, Sotra identifies unsafe living conditions, secures the necessary construction permits, and begins rebuilding with a focus on dignity, security, and sustainability.
