Alwaleed Philanthropies and King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority Strengthen Ranger Readiness Through Specialized Training Programs

Alwaleed Philanthropies, chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud, in partnership with the King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority, has concluded a specialized training program designed to strengthen the skills and capabilities of more than 60 Royal Reserve rangers and enhance their readiness to carry out their field responsibilities effectively and professionally. The program contributes to the Authority's efforts to protect the environment, preserve natural resources, and safeguard biodiversity within the Reserve.

The program was delivered as part of a joint effort to develop the capabilities of field teams and strengthen their skills across areas relevant to their roles. The training combined theoretical knowledge with practical and field-based applications, with executive oversight from Education For Employment (EFE), equipping participants with the skills needed to respond effectively to the range of tasks and situations they encounter in the field.

Five Specialized Training Courses for 61 Participants

A total of 61 participants completed five specialized training courses covering biodiversity monitoring and observation techniques, environmental violation detection and enforcement procedures, search and rescue in desert environments, professional environmental photography and documentation, as well as visitor engagement, environmental awareness, and field interpretation.

A Practical Learning Approach Tailored to Field Realities

The program placed a strong emphasis on practical learning tailored to the rangers' field responsibilities. Training methods included practical and field applications, case studies, field exercises, simulations, and workshops, enabling participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills in real-world settings.

HRH Princess Lamia bint Majed Al Saud, Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies, stated: "This program reflects our longstanding commitment to empowering local communities and developing national capabilities through meaningful collaboration with the King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority and Education For Employment. Investing in people and strengthening the skills of those working on the ground is essential to creating lasting impact and advancing efforts to protect our natural environment."

Maher Al-Qathmi, CEO of the King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority, said: "Developing the capabilities of our field teams is a fundamental part of strengthening the effectiveness of the Reserve's conservation efforts. The nature of the rangers' work requires a diverse set of skills that bring together environmental knowledge, field readiness, and the ability to engage effectively with visitors and respond to the different situations they may encounter."

Al-Qathmi added: "Our partnership with Alwaleed Philanthropies in delivering this program reflects the importance of bringing efforts together and building meaningful partnerships that invest in human capabilities. By strengthening the skills of our field teams, we are enabling them to carry out their roles more effectively and contribute to lasting impact in support of the Authority's efforts to protect the environment and preserve natural resources."

In visitor engagement and environmental awareness, the program focused on developing rangers' communication and interpretation skills, including visitor services, presentation and environmental interpretation, environmental awareness, and group management.

Search and Rescue and Professional Environmental Documentation

The program also developed emergency response capabilities in desert environments through training in search and rescue principles, emergency management, and evacuation procedures, alongside environmental photography skills, wildlife documentation, and image management to support monitoring and documentation work across the Reserve.

Visitor Engagement and Environmental Awareness Skills

In visitor engagement and environmental awareness, the program focused on developing rangers' communication and interpretation skills, including visitor services, presentation and environmental interpretation, environmental awareness, and group management. These skills were developed through workshops, field-based training, and role-playing exercises, further equipping rangers to engage with visitors and support environmental awareness across the Reserve.
