Alwaleed Philanthropies Global and Misr El Kheir Foundation Launch the Ninth Phase of the “Sutra” Project to Rehabilitate Homes for the Most Vulnerable Families in Egypt

Building on the strategic partnership between Alwaleed Philanthropies Global, chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud, and Misr El Kheir Foundation, work has begun on the ninth phase of the “Sutra” project to rehabilitate 700 homes. The project aims to improve housing conditions through rehabilitation, renovation, and roofing works, in cooperation with the Ministries of Social Solidarity, Housing, Local Development, and Environment.

Dr. Mohamed Hani Ghoneim, Governor of Fayoum, welcomed HRH Princess Lamia bint Majed Al Saud, Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies, and Eng. Amal Mubadda, Executive Director of Resource Development at Misr El Kheir Foundation, during their visit to Fayoum Governorate as part of the launch activities for the ninth phase of the “Sutra” project.

The visit included a field tour by a delegation from both foundations to inspect several targeted homes in Tersa village in Fayoum Governorate, in preparation for the start of development and rehabilitation works aimed at improving the quality of life for eligible families. The ninth phase of the “Sutra” project includes upgrading 200 homes across the villages of Tersa, Qalamshah, Dafno, Al-Salam, Gheidan, and Hawara Al-Maqta in Fayoum Governorate.

HRH Princess Lamia bint Majed Al Saud, Secretary General of Alwaleed Philanthropies, stated:

“At Alwaleed Philanthropies, we believe that adequate housing is the foundation of a dignified life. Through our long-standing partnership with Misr El Kheir Foundation in the ‘Sutra’ project, we are working to empower the most vulnerable families to live in safe environments that preserve their dignity and provide them with opportunities for a better life. This approach reflects our shared vision for humanitarian work, focusing on improving quality of life and delivering the support needed to achieve tangible development impact.”

Dr. Mohamed Hani Ghoneim, Governor of Fayoum, highlighted the depth of relations and strong historical ties between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He noted that the “Sutra” project, implemented in cooperation between Alwaleed Philanthropies Global and Misr El Kheir Foundation, represents a true embodiment of sustainable development that places people at the center. He emphasized that the project serves as a model for integration between government executive bodies and civil society organizations in providing a dignified life for citizens, particularly in the most underserved areas, aligned with national efforts to develop rural communities and support civil society initiatives serving local communities and those most in need.

For her part, Eng. Amal Mubadda, Executive Director of Resource Development at Misr El Kheir Foundation, stated that the “Sutra” project represents one of the most prominent examples of successful development partnerships. Since its launch in 2017, the project has improved housing conditions for more than 7,200 homes across various governorates, as part of a plan targeting the development of 10,000 homes over a 10-year period.

She explained that the ninth phase builds on this success, targeting the rehabilitation of between 600 and 700 homes across four governorates: Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, and Assiut, reflecting the continued expansion of the Foundation’s development interventions. She added that the partnership with Alwaleed Philanthropies Global represents an effective model of international cooperation in civil society work, contributing to maximizing development impact and ensuring the sustainability of projects, particularly in the housing improvement sector.

She further noted that conducting field visits prior to the start of development works reflects a commitment to accurately identifying the actual needs of the families, ensuring the delivery of integrated interventions that achieve the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
