The devastating earthquakes that struck Syria in 2023 have left a significant impact on communities, particularly in the region of Tartous. In response to this urgent need Alwaleed Philanthropies “Global” and International Medical Corps – Syria partnered, aiming to improve the health and wellbeing of both refugees and host communities affected by the disaster.

Improving Healthcare Infrastructure in Syria: Dual Goals for Community Health

The project has two primary objectives. The first is to rehabilitate and enhance the Al-Raml Primary Healthcare Center, ensuring it is fully functional and capable of meeting the healthcare demands of the community. The second objective is to strengthen public health facilities to enhance the overall health landscape in the region, thereby improving the delivery of healthcare services to those in need.

Project Duration and Beneficiaries

The project is set to run from July 2023 to April 2024. Within the year 2023 alone, the project has significantly impacted the lives of many, providing benefits to 19,910 individuals and delivering 68,573 medical services. These numbers highlight the project's reach and effectiveness in supporting the affected communities.

Sustainability and Healthcare Infrastructure Enhancement in Syria in 2023

Several key achievements have marked the progress of the project in 2023. One notable success is the installation of a 10,000-watt solar system, which has enabled the clinic to meet its electricity needs, thereby facilitating continuous lab services during working hours. This sustainable energy solution is vital in ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services.

In addition to infrastructure improvements, the project has also focused on the provision of essential medical supplies. A total of 42,138 pieces of medical consumables have been distributed, ensuring that the clinic is well-equipped to handle the healthcare needs of the community. Furthermore, the clinic has received 84,679 lab supplies and test/lab consumables, significantly enhancing its diagnostic capabilities.

Looking Forward

As we move towards the project's completion in April 2024, the continued focus will be on ensuring that the Al-Raml Primary Healthcare Center remains a cornerstone of health and wellbeing in Tartous. The achievements thus far are a testament to the dedication and collaborative efforts of all involved, providing a solid foundation for future health initiatives.

Through strategic partnerships and a commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure, this project not only addresses immediate health needs but also contributes to the resilience and recovery of the community. By strengthening the Al-Raml PHC, we are building a healthier, more resilient future for the people of Tartous in the wake of disaster.
